Elle journaled for her life.

Since the Tom incident four cycles ago, Elle had been moved to what must be a suite. She sat at the desk, in her new spacious accommodations at the royal residence. The new room had a receiving area, desk, sleeping area and a bathroom that looked more like the average person’s idea of a spa. It also had been frequented by the staff and some warriors who appeared to be part of a security detail. The security warriors came at odd times, checking the room, paying close attention to one particular area of the wall behind the bed and asking if she was okay. But no visits or sightings of Gordin. She’d even ate her meals alone.

Some good, solid soul journaling, that’s what she’d been needing. What better way to exercise self-care than to get all the swirling thoughts out and onto a page? She could burn it all later. Allowing her pen to float over the surface of the page without edit or critique, Elle imbued words and little doodles with meaning. Sometimes pressing hard onto the paper, she demanded they transform into vessels to carry away all the noise in her head. If she’d been allowed to do something, like work, all this turmoil might have been evicted from her mind by now.

Exercising in the designated area of the residence hadn’t helped to relieve the stress. That’s when she’d resorted to writing. It was still a go-to for a good old fashion cathartic empowerment. She needed the release bad. Elle’s peace of mind had to be restored.

The pen made a circle on the page, round and round as flashes of Tom’s face turning blue rode her memories. Avery had been too far gone in her trauma to release him. She’d strangled this man in front of everyone. Another man had threatened harm to Elle and it had been her sister to come to the rescue again. Slashes of ink dissected the circle, as the word “enough” formed over it.

All the hurts, pains, misunderstandings, frustrations that had morphed into inconsolable anger and even the outlier of her giddy attraction for Gordin, had congealed together into a mass of looping thoughts that obstructed fresh new ones from blooming and growing. Finally, some movement toward a return back to normal had begun to emerge through this exercise.

Great, sometimes the old stuff worked better than anything else. She’d get her relief through the simple act of writing. The words were doing their thing. Tension ebbed, releasing its constriction on various areas of her body. Got to love journaling. It had always been a winner for her.

The sound of the chime at the door brought Elle back to the room, “Come in!” Elle yelled across the space. She didn’t want to break the flow and it had to be a member of the staff.

Thanks to her security, no one could come in without first ringing. That was a precautionary measure to prevent unwanted guests from barging in—like Tom. Of course security had an override, but that was her new life.
